Kathleen Ousley aka: KO

Born 1964 American

Currently living in the Netherlands

Kathleen Ousley has been a long time artist and lover of all things beautiful and creative. She spends her time making things beautiful: whether it’s placing art in someone’s home; styling a commercial or photo shoot; designing her clothing line; shopping for the right textile for a client; curating an art exhibition or creating interiors for homes and businesses.

In her studio she creates the most innovative designs.

Her talents are endless.

She has a sense of aesthetics that others notice right away.

Kathleen Ousley was born in the Show-Me State of Missouri in 1964. She attended Stephens College, a small, liberal arts women’s college. Here, Kathleen received her BFA in Fashion Design and a Minor in Art. Towards the end of her education, Kathleen was much more at home in the art department than the fashion department. Art has always been a part of Kathleen’s life. Her mother, a kindergarten teacher, made sure she dated and signed everything she created, encouraging her to draw whenever and however she chose. Kathleen spent a lot of time in nature where she would just contemplate and wonder. “I think it shaped who I am, I still crave being in a place where there are no people, just quiet and still, where my thoughts are open without distractions.  My art is an extension of that feeling I had in nature…no boundaries.”

Kathleen’s style switches from abstract to representational, both contemporary and highly relevant. Often in her work one can see a focus on inner thoughts that seep out in text laid into her paintings. She creates paintings with mostly acrylic and collage. Some of her works have words and imagery from vintage magazines, which encourages her to translate how female roles have developed and changed for the better. She finds her artwork to be a form of therapy as so many artists do.

Kathleen’s professional career spans the disciplines of Costume Design, Manager and Curator of Art Galleries, Interior design, Graphic Design and Fashion.

Kathleen has shown her works in several galleries in the U.S.A. and seeks gallery representation in Europe. She spends most of her time in the Netherlands but isn't a stranger to Italy and California .

Her design studio is currently available for freelance projects.

No challenge is too much for this Mid- Western raised Show-Me gal.
